Because there is a 21 year age span from the oldest to youngest, a lot of our memories of growing up with Mom are different. We have all had different experiences, but we all learned the same life lessons. This is a collaboration of each of our memories of our mother.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 221px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1aRiB7bOFlY/TfWWqRpVMHI/AAAAAAAAAX0/AA8lE84AhKE/s320/Mom%2B002.tif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617561763249991794" />
Mom,

When you thought we weren’t looking…
You sewed our clothes on the treadle sewing machine late at night.
You mopped the kitchen floor on your hands and knees at night after we went to bed.
You weeded our garden & tended our yard in the early mornings.
You ironed & pressed our clothes, EVEN our sheets & pillowcases.
You taught us how to cook and even to sew on that old treadle machine, INCLUDING your sons.
You taught us the value of hard work.

When you thought we weren’t looking…
You made casseroles & brownies for ward members who were in need – through this we developed a preference for the brownie edge pieces that WE were given.
You worked late into the night doing decorations for Relief Society luncheons, helping set them up the night before, taking them down & cleaning up.
We saw you care for others:
-You took care of us after surgeries, coming to our homes to do so… even doing our laundry.
-We watched you thoughtfully care for great Aunt Blanche & Grandma.
You taught us how to give selfless service.

When you thought we weren’t looking…
You amazed us knowing everyone’s schedule without a day planner or blackberry.
Without the conveniences of today, dinner was ready when Dad came home & IMAGINE 9 kids without disposable diapers.
We saw you time Thanksgiving dinner, for so many, perfectly.
You knew all of our likes & dislikes and always remembered our favorites.
You taught us to pay attention to detail.

When you thought we weren’t looking…
You offered great wisdom & advice to us when we needed it.
You told us not to say things that were not nice, but listened anyway.
You said many times, “If you haven’t tried it, don’t knock it.” So you have to taste everything at least once.
We watched you turn the other cheek and never hold a grudge.
We learned not ALL inappropriate language consisted only of swear words.
You showed us to be grateful for what we have
You chose to be happy.
You taught by being a great example.

When you thought we weren’t looking…
We saw you pass the rolls at dinner… TOSSING one across the table.
We noticed the extra care you took to beautifully wrap our presents.
You relaxed at the end of the day by reading the paper & drinking your Pepsi in the living room, STARTING to watch Perry Mason or playing solitaire.
We enjoyed our holiday celebrations: the decorations, the dishes & special treats. We even celebrated St Patrick’s Day. You got us time and time again for April Fool’s . You made holidays fun.
You had the patience to teach even the grandkids how to enjoy playing cards and games.
We saw you in the stands at our track meets, ball games, concerts & dance recitals.
When we played Pinochle, we didn’t buy into your surprised expression as you laid down a double Pinchole.
We caught you, in your 60’s, on roller blades & in the living room doing cart wheels.
We heard you humming and singing, you hummed as you worked & you taught us many songs… we know “MARES EAT OATS”… and akiddlyivytoo.
We recognized your love for dancing… in the living room with Dad or after our Thanksgiving dinner.
You taught us how to have fun.

When you thought we weren’t looking…
You made sure that everything was equal, yet at the same time individual.
You remembered each or your grandchildren & great grandchildren with cards & gifts.
You always waited up at night until all of us were home, and didn’t get mad even when the police brought some of THEM home.
You made us feel like we were each your favorite child or grandchild, without making us jealous of the time you spent with the other kids.
You taught us the example of temple attendance. When Dad would get home from work you were dressed and ready to leave for the temple.
We caught you and Dad, many times, holding each other’s hand tenderly.
We felt your love for each of us.

When you thought we weren’t looking…
You sacrificed your NEEDS, a new dress, a pair of shoes, for the WANTS of your children. You showed us how to be selfless.
We saw your pain in your physical ailments and knew you were sacrificing for us to have you just a little longer.
You endured many difficult trials, for your family, with courage, dignity & strength. You truly endured to the end.
We love you Mom!

<img style="display:block; At least to me.

However, I'm sure Mr. Wright just wants to pull his hair out every year. (shh...I know there is not a lot there...don't make me feel worse) This year I tried harder. We listened to Christmas music and I even let him make some of the decisions. Well, at least one.

But who am I kidding it's not just Christmas. We put the house back to "normal" last week. And by "we" I mean I made the decisions and told Mr. Wright what he was allowed to do. He packed the stuff up in the boxes (after I sorted them out) and carried them down to the storage. Then I put the "regular stuff" out again. I'm not quite sure where Mr. Wright was at that point. Probably wishing he could escape the insanity of me. I know it sounds like I am just mean and bossy. And maybe even crazy...but the truth is that I think I might be - just a LITTLE bit neurotic.

Somewhere between the crazy me of decorating for Christmas and the crazy me of putting the house back together, there was a lot of cherished memories with family, friends and each other. Memories of singing, laughing and playing. Memories that have reminded me that Christmas is about giving...of oneself, of time and of love.

I hope to be better at not only remembering that next year but doing that next year.

Yesterday - I just got around to reading this in the December New Era. And although Christmas is over - I still think it is important for me today. As I set new goals or my new year's resolutions - I hope to be a better giver throughout the year. A giver of my love, my time and myself!

summer project

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jYCde_iDAu0/TRgbsatL1SI/AAAAAAAAAVI/45dO098xSDs/s320/DSCN0853.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5555220590258541858" />I neglected to take a good before picture. I read a great blog entry today listing the pros and cons of each and I loved it. So make sure you read this before making your decision.

It turns out she makes a good case for both of them. But as for me, I am also going with Mr. Knightley because I too have always wanted to say "...now I may call you my Mister Knightley".

ps...Mr. Wright is not a fan of Jane Austen, so he doesn't have a clue that the reason I call him Mr. Wright and sometimes my Mr. Wright on our blog is because of "Emma". He thinks it's because he is my Mr. "Right"...and, well, that's true also.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Some of my favorite treats come nestled in a paper cup lined in a pretty box.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jYCde_iDAu0/S9hadiqX0nI/AAAAAAAAAR8/bXeSkgJPIQ4/s320/chocolates3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465217611381330546" />
However, some of the nastiest flavors also come disguised as these yummy treats. Forrest Gump's momma was right, "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get." You never know if you will get the good chocolate or the nasty chocolate. For this reason I am a big fan of the insert thingy that sometimes come with chocolates to let you know what you will be enjoying and which ones to avoid.

The best solution to this problem is just create your own custom box at the candy store.

The next best thing is to go to Costco and buy the Milk Chocolate Caramel Macadamia Clusters. Every one of those clusters is yummy.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 164px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jYCde_iDAu0/S9ho_R9e2OI/AAAAAAAAASE/Y6aSkIxxraU/s320/macadamia_caramel_clusters.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465233584176421090" />
Better yet, have your husband surprise you on your birthday with a fancy chocolate box filled with those Caramel Macadamia Clusters from Costco. And as an extra touch have him make you an insert thingy so you know what you are enjoying and which ones to avoid. (by the way...none of them were avoided)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 302px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jYCde_iDAu0/S9ZGXZMB0QI/AAAAAAAAAR0/LCGrZQbBoOo/s320/img205.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464632565572948226" />
Thank you Mr. Wright for a fun and yummy birthday surprise!

Everything Edible

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jYCde_iDAu0/S8gCPqOUx8I/AAAAAAAAAQ8/sCNRV4RknHM/s320/DSCN0814.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5460617016242390978" />
Chocolate shell, edible grass and chocolate covered oreos. At least in the valley. Let it snow in the mountains all it needs to. Now I'm not trying to get rid of the season all together or even ruin our water table. I would just prefer not having anymore snow at my house.

Mr. Wright on the other hand...although I don't think he enjoys the snow...secretly wishes for more snow. You see he is a fixer. Since we have been in our house he has found some great deals online. Two that come to mind are our snow blower and our edger. He cleaned them up and worked on them until they worked like a charm. ("worked on them" means he did something to get them from not running to running but I don't really know what...although he explained it to me in detail**sigh**I forgot.)

With the snow blower he also had to replace the blades. And because you can't just buy the blade separately, it created a challenge but he was up for it. He first went around to find some rubber. Now it had to be hard rubber and of a certain thickness. Well, Mr. Wright found it and he got it for free. He then had to drill out the rivets that held the old ones on, cut out the new blades and bolt them on again. What a great job he did but I still don't want it to snow.

The old rivets.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jYCde_iDAu0/S4HOwUpjvGI/AAAAAAAAAOk/736gKYHKCzE/s320/DSCN0756.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440857154412330082" />
The damaged blades.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jYCde_iDAu0/S4HOxvGjXaI/AAAAAAAAAOs/JxeOz3pz4Cc/s320/DSCN0753.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440857178693131682" />
The new rubber.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jYCde_iDAu0/S4HOx3dMPZI/AAAAAAAAAO0/dNwIl8qj2qA/s320/DSCN0752.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440857180935568786" />
The new blades.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jYCde_iDAu0/S4HOv_6CmaI/AAAAAAAAAOc/Vhnwsqgjxhc/s320/DSCN0748.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440857148844317090" />
The finished project.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jYCde_iDAu0/S4HOyYMbA1I/AAAAAAAAAO8/RG_NoU0KsGE/s320/DSCN0747.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440857189723603794" />

got Voles?

The poor vole gets no recognition.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 229px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jYCde_iDAu0/S2-agDPE7EI/AAAAAAAAANk/pcLXAu9gBF0/s320/voles.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5435733150674512962" />
Everyone has heard of the mole. But most people go their whole lives without ever so much as hearing about "voles," let alone practicing vole control.

Voles construct well-defined, visible tunnels, or runways at or near the surface, about two inches wide. Vole runways result from the voles eating the grass blades, as well as from the constant traffic of numerous little feet beating over the same path.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jYCde_iDAu0/S2-bvv1fkbI/AAAAAAAAAN0/aRN3PnQWy2Y/s320/DSCN0739.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5435734519856468402" />
And if any lawn and garden pest can literally “beat a path” through the grass due to their sheer numbers, it’s the voles. Rabbits don’t have anything over this fertile rodent!

Voles can burrow into the root systems of landscaping shrubs and trees, They can damage flower bulbs and potatoes in the garden. But mainly voles eat the stems and blades of grass. And the runways they leave behind in the process make for an unsightly lawn.

Even in winter you're not home-free with respect to potential vole damage. Voles will use snow as cover as they attack your landscaping.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jYCde_iDAu0/S2-bFYHAmuI/AAAAAAAAANs/DBnsf80dIHw/s320/DSCN0738.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5435733791932979938" />
So, YES, wish us luck cause we got VOLES!!!!!

The above pictures are of our very own vole runways. Mr.Wright saw the signs and has already started the vole control. Another reason I love my Mr. Wright.

He can take care of all your pests too. I remember thinking it was kind of cool that he couldn't tell and I would proudly inform him that I was Kelli. Then he would follow up with the question that haunts me today..."How do you know that you are Kelli? How do you know that I didn't switch you in the middle of the night and you just woke up in Kelli's bed."

What!?

I know, how mean right? And by the way, for my sibling out there with this same personality trait (you know who you are), I hope you can see that you take after Dad.

As a little kid, I was troubled for a moment about this question but decided that I was right because I would certainly know if I was really Kristi...right?

So the other day when Mr. Wright and I were talking about childhood memories, I was really bothered that in some of my memories I couldn't remember which one of us did what. Do I have memories of Kristi and memories of Kelli? Why can't I define these things in my head? Could I have been Kristi for a week, month or year before my Dad remembered to switch us back? Hooray for me! It truly is a miracle, seriously. For those who don't know me. I am not a reader. In the last 5 years I have made more of an effort than I ever did in school and I have actually enjoyed it. Scary right. Well, it's the truth. But when I started Pride and Predjudice, man, it was so hard for me. I was glad I had seen the movie - or should I say movies because I needed that to get me threw. But here lies the problem with seeing movies before reading the novels. But with each entry I wondered, "who would want to read this?" The "oohs & ahhs" in my life never seem to reflect in my writing the justice they deserve.

While secrectly wanting to be a better writer I scan other's blogs. They often make me laugh and cry. I am not only impressed with the content but the frequency. There are many dedicated bloggers. And not the kind that would resemble my teenage journal (you know what I mean - only talking about the day and the most recent boy crisis), but great writing and pictures.

I love the dedication of many of my fellow bloggers and yet I know I am not alone, for there are plenty sites I frequently check and like mine show nothing new.

So, the next few entries are me playing catch up on 2009.

Fall back plans are more creative.

Instead of our new bigger deck...our ever changing budget took us to plan B - "just paint it". But before we could even start to paint we needed to repair, support, secure and sand. Okay to be fair - Mr. Wright needed to repair, support and secure & "we" needed to sand. I don't even know how to tell you how bad it was - but it was bad...no...really bad. But I am so proud of our fall back plan & I am so impressed with Mr. Wright and his creativity. He was able to repair, strengthen and secure that darn rickety deck with very little money and lots of sweat. Mr Wright has been out of work for 6 months and I was laid off in March...so when I got a job offer yesterday we jumped up and down and all around. I was expecting the written offer the next day but instead I got the news that the president and owner ordered a hiring freeze after reviewing April financials and May forecast. It was sad for a few hours around the house today.

But honestly, we are so blessed. And although the stress of unemployment is so real, we have felt such love and support from people around us.

So the job search continues!<div A really sweet card from Mr. Wright. The card says, "I love you - You were so worth waiting for." My mom, sisters and I get together and bring a dozen cookies for each guest to take home. The cookies should be homeade but don't have to be a new recipe. We exchange recipes and serve brunch while chatting and tasting any extra cookies. If everyone could make it I would be making 9 dozen cookies - Yikes! This year we missed a few and so I made 6 dozen cookies and came home with 6 dozen different cookies. Among the cookies were Peanut Butter Hershey Kiss Cookies, Peppermint Melt-Aways, Coconut Peanut Butter Bars, Press Cookies, Mint Chocolate Wafer Cookies, and Cranberry Orange Pinwheels. Mr Wright and I divided them up and delivered them to our neighbors. It was nice to have a variety.

Scabs

Why do we pick our scabs? Our bodies are amazing. When we fall and scrap ourselves up our body knows to start healing itself. If we clean the wound and protect it, it will form a scab and start the healing process. But many of us pick at our scabs and prolong the healing time as well as many times create scars.

Why do we pick at ourselves? The atonement is amazing. When we fall and sin it is there for us to heal. If we repent and change our behavior we form a type of scab and start the healing process. But may of us pick at our scabs and prolong the healing time. Others pick at faint scars that are left from years earlier. Scars that the Lord can't see anymore but we let ourselves see them still. The hardest part of repentance is the picking of scars and scabs...forgiving ourselves.

As explained to Simba in The Lion King, the past can hurt - but you either learn from it or let to control you. uh or something like that

Eight is Great

I have been tagged!

Shows I like to watch:
1 - The Office
2 - Dexter
3 - Raising the Bar
4 - Law & Order SVU - even though Lane has a crush on Olivia
5 - Brothers & Sisters
6 - Sons of Anarchy
7 - Fringe
8 - ER

Restaurants I enjoy:
1 - Cafe Rio
2 - Market Street
3 - Restaurant Morelia's
4 - Texas Roadhouse
5 - Rio Grand Cafe
6 - Iggy's
7 - Applebee's
8 - Rafael's

Thing that happened today:
1 - Woke up late for work.
2 - Gave my husband a shot.
3 - Grabbed some toast, milk and a banana for breakfast.
4 - Packed up leftover for lunch.
5 - Listened to "Radio from Hell" while eating breakfast on the way to work.
6 - Checked my emails and opened mail.
7 - Worked on daily deposits.
8 - Right now - listening to music as I create this blog.

Things I look forward to:
1 - Kissing Lane hello.
2 - Girls night out with my sisters tonight to see "Twilight".
3 - Thanksgiving celebrations...aka food...aka pumpkin pie.
4 - Christmas Carols.
5 - Spring.
6 - Clean sheets.
7 - My husband singing to me.
8 - Good hair days.

Wish List
1 - Children. - Maybe I just mean a child. Groups of turkeys, sometimes known as a rafter of turkeys would drop dead when the Air Force was conducting test runs and breaking the sound barrier nearby. Apparently turkeys can drown if they look up when it is raining. Excessive turkey breeding has caused turkey breasts to grow so enormous that the turkeys sometimes fall over. She wished she could end her life to be free of the pain but she was Catholic and knew that doing so would send her straight to hell. She asked her friend to do it for her since he was not Catholic.

Here is where my thoughts lead:

If she believed that she would be damned for committing murder or in this case suicide, why was it okay for someone else (a friend) to commit the crime just because he didn't believe? Wouldn't everyone be punished the same way, despite their believes?
